Among the awards he has received are: the National Professor Barea Award on two occasions—he was, in fact, the youngest doctor to receive it (2006 and 2008); the Pfizer Chair Award for Innovation and Excellence in Clinical Management (2007); and the National CTO-Ulysses Research Award (2009).

His research focuses on Healthcare Quality, Risk Scales and Prognostic Factors, surgical patient conditioning, Nutrition and Morbid Obesity, and Scientific Methodology.

He also participated as the Spanish Representative in the "European Obesity Project: European Obesity Academy (EOA)" at the Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm, between 2008 and 2010. He has received 8 research grants and scholarships. So far, his scientific career includes the publication of more than 70 articles in national and international journals, 8 book chapters on medicine and surgery, 3 supervised doctoral theses, and 6 books on nutrition and health.

He owns 2 clinics in Murcia where he leads a multidisciplinary team. He also consults at the ADESLAS Medical Center in Murcia and at Asisa.

He provides consultations for cases of metabolic syndrome, fast-track cancer care, preoperative patients, and nutritional conditioning.

As a curiosity, he also holds a Law Degree and a Master's in Legal Practice, is a Guinness World Record holder in magic, and was included in the international biographical yearbook Who's Who in the World in 2009.
